Lockdown Lessons #01: Precaution or Solution

Lockdown Lessons #01: Precaution or Solution

Today, as on 3rd May 2020 India is moving towards Lockdown 3.0 for another 2 Weeks, amidst Corona Crisis, it raises several questions on our preparedness to fight the pandemic. Lockdown was never a solution to corona virus; it is the only possible precaution to control the spread and flatten the curve. So the solution lies in the ironical fact that less number of cases and infection spread till the vaccine or medicine is discovered. With nearly 40,000+ corona virus positive cases in India by the end of lockdown 2.0 ends, it further raises the doubt and clearly indicates that something somewhere gone wrong in planning or implementation. Now identifying and rectifying the glitch and thinking out of box will be the solution as preventive measures will not safeguard us too long and eventually will collapse the economy. So after Janta curfew, Lockdown 2.0 and now Lockdown 3.0, are we heading towards Lockdown 4.0, 5.0 and so on. The concept of Red, Orange and Green Zones in Lockdown 3.0 seems to be appealing but still it is doubtful as the demarcations of Red, Orange and Green zones are geographical or based on Corona Positive or Suspected but can’t cover the assumption of Asymptomatic Careers. So it is possible that after 3.0 Lock Down, only there will be swapping of zones between Red, Green and Orange with the average contamination and spread of Coronavirus on rise.

Lockdown – Twofold Purpose

  • Control the steep rise of infection cases
  • Prepare the healthcare infrastructure and system to be able to take care of anticipated number of cases

Any Government that wants to start Lifting Lockdown restrictions, must first meet six conditions (So are we prepared enough to lidt and offer relaxations in lockdown)

  • Disease transmission is under control

  • Health systems are able to “detect, test, isolate and treat every case and trace every contact”

  • Hot spot risks are minimized in vulnerable places, such as nursing homes

  • Schools, workplaces and other essential places have established preventive measures

  • The risk of importing new cases “can be managed”

  • Communities are fully educated, engaged and empowered to live under a new normal

  • The entire Governance, Administration, organisational and societal culture and behaviour is transformationally guided and reoriented

Relaxations in Lockdown 3.0 may be an attempt to revive the economy and to cover the Socio-Economic Loss to some extend but if it turns to be a miscalculation, by May End we will be in a situation where longer lockdown and bigger losses awaits. When the fight is with unknown devil, sometimes expert advises too tend to go wrong as its unforeseen consequences we have to encounter.

There is quite little possible in advising and changing the strategy but still two parallel models need to be worked out, one which is currently being implemented, an easier approach of demarking the cities and towns geographically, on the basis of risk (Red, Orange and Green), which categorizes Corona Positive, Low Risk and Safe Zones. But above approach still can’t cover asymptomatic carriers, so ideally there must be 5 demarcations and not just 3. Another a bit tougher approach could be physical migration of Positive, High Risk and separating them from Active / Possible Carriers and taking the altogether reverse approach, Isolate Non Risk Population.

Isolation of COVID POSITIVE
Vs.
Isolation of COVID SAFE

Isolation of COVID Positiove Creates 3 Demarkations in them while Isolation of COVID Safe creates 3 subcategory amongst them .
So total 6 combination of Zones will appear and this will create a more organized approach to fight Covid and manage economy as well.

What Else You Can Do During Lockdown

While we are sitting at home for, only possible advice at this time is Stay Home Stay Safe, yet don’t just waste this time in Facebook Surfing, Browsing through YouTube, Sleeping, Assuming and Day Dreaming or Watching Television. Each one has its importance only till you do it as Pastime and as Entertainment but it can’t be substituted as Full Time Pastime.

So use this time for developing your skills, converting your passion and hobby to a skill which is more perfect and refined with practice. Spend time with nature (Gardening), Devote time to your Passion (Singing, Dance or Arts) or learn something which is helpful to your career in future. One thing is for sure, day dreaming will not solve corona crisis nor is it going to go any good to you, except losing your own peace of mind.
